Harare — Zimbabwe has launched the AI and Innovation Week 2025, a landmark national programme aimed at accelerating digital transformation and positioning the country as a regional leader in artificial intelligence.

The three-day event, supported by UNDP, brings together government ministries, universities, tech hubs, private sector players, and young innovators from across the country.
During the event, government officials unveiled the Zimbabwe National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2026–2030, a major policy framework set to guide the country’s digital development over the next five years.
The week features key activities including:
- An AI for Government Bootcamp targeting public-sector digital skills
- Innovation exhibitions and hackathons
- The finals of the MineTech and Lithium Value Chain competitions
- A US$40,000 innovation prize pool for top tech solutions
Early highlights include AI-driven tools for mining safety, agriculture, education, and health — signalling a strong push toward technology-enabled economic growth.
Authorities say AI will play a key role in advancing the country’s Vision 2030 goals and strengthening Zimbabwe’s innovation ecosystem.
